Attachment-Based Therapy (ABT) is defined as a clinical approach rooted in the theory that a person’s primary relationships usually with childhood caregivers—shape their emotional regulation and interpersonal patterns throughout life. It focuses on the internal working model of the client, aiming to transition them from insecure attachment styles (anxious, avoidant, or disorganized) toward a secure attachment. By utilizing the counselor-client relationship as a "secure base," the intervention helps individuals process early relational trauma, build trust, and develop healthier ways of connecting with others.
