Self Harming
Self Harming (often referred to as Non-Suicidal Self-Injury, or NSSI) is the deliberate, self-inflicted destruction of body tissue without suicidal intent. Unlike a suicide attempt, Self Harming is typically utilized as a maladaptive coping mechanism to manage intense emotional pain, provide a sense of control, or communicate internal distress. Professional counseling frameworks emphasize that these behaviors are often symptomatic of underlying psychological trauma or emotional dysregulation, requiring a non-judgmental, therapeutic intervention that focuses on developing healthier emotional regulation strategies and identifying the specific triggers behind the behavior.
