Women's Issues
Women’s Issues refers to a specialized framework for addressing the unique psychological, social, and biological experiences that disproportionately affect women throughout their lifespan. Rather than viewing these challenges through a generic lens, the American Counseling Association (ACA) and Feminist Therapy models emphasize how systemic factors—such as gender-role socialization, reproductive health transitions, and socio-economic inequality—impact mental health. This definition encompasses specific clinical concerns like postpartum depression, domestic violence, and workplace discrimination, as well as broader issues of empowerment and identity. Counselors utilize gender-sensitive interventions to help women navigate these stressors, focusing on the intersectionality of race, class, and sexual orientation to provide a comprehensive and advocacy-based approach to wellness.
